This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

We present a dare for partners in committed relationships who appreciate the horror genre: Settle in with your loved one and watch Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. On the surface, it may seem like conventional body horror, but beneath Together exists a intense examination about the ways we decide to love one another.

A Directorial Debut Delving into The Nuances of Love

Together represents the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for over ten years. Having wed in real life in 2017, the two stars infuse a particular energy to their characters, expertly portraying both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The plot commences when the couple relocate from the metropolis to the countryside for Millie’s job. A familiar plot device, of course, but that’s mostly where the conventions conclude. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a film about physical terror.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While hiking near their country house, a storm hits, and the protagonists fall into an underground cave. After a night spent there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity starts to affect the couple. This force creates a otherworldly bond between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The whole movie is a gradually intensifying fright fest, blending elements of fever-dream horrors, disturbing (but never too gross) physical transformations, and genuinely funny exchanges (sometimes in the middle of something disturbing). Michael Shanks orchestrates these parts expertly and presents them in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A large part of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a distance. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his failing musical ambitions gradually emerges.

Conversely, Tim senses confinement and separated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve moved to the country and removed from his social circle. He is terrified of the concept of completely losing his sense of self in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he can’t drive and needs Millie for transportation.

Shanks’ smartest move in this movie avoids making one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

The couple grapple with the sort of issues that are inherent in most partnerships after ten years. At their core, they still love one another. They find humor with each other, provide solace, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an persistent current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the supernatural forces in Together act as a metaphor for these concerns of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to a partner, the symbolism does not come across as overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments present a perfect parallel to the character-driven drama. Both the supernatural and the personal enhance each other symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the film’s ultimate message about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that single viewers have seen the movie as a strong argument for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, certain partners experiencing tension found that the film ended up guiding them to reconcile.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own interpretation could act as a revealing measure of how you view relationships. Will the finale sow feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a positive outlook on love? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply look at your partner and state, “I’d do that for you”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an test you can undertake at this very moment.
